Job summary

Northern Star Academies Trust is seeking a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join our Facilities Team on a part-time basis (25 hours per week, all year). The role focuses on keeping the school site safe, secure, clean and well-maintained for pupils, staff and visitors.

You will conduct inspections, undertake minor repairs, monitor contractors and help with health and safety checks. DBS check is required to be considered for appointment.

Qualifications

• Reliable, proactive and enthusiastic caretaker ideally with a positive approach to the school environment.
• Willingness to work 25 hours per week all year round, with flexibility to support operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Opening and securing the school site in accordance with procedures.
• Carrying out routine inspections of buildings and grounds to ensure safety and upkeep.
• Undertaking minor repairs and general caretaking duties across the site.
• Identifying and reporting maintenance issues, defects and health and safety concerns.
• Supporting the cleanliness and presentation of buildings and external areas.
• Assisting with health and safety checks, including fire safety and security inspections.
• Setting up rooms, furniture and equipment for meetings, events and exams.
• Monitoring contractors on site and ensuring compliance with procedures.
• Assisting with site security, including responding to alarms and emergencies as required.
• Ensuring pathways, entrances and outdoor areas are safe and accessible.
• Monitoring stock levels of site supplies and reporting replenishment needs.
• Willing to work flexibly to support the school's operational needs.
