Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is assisting a Horsham-based school in its search for a School Caretaker responsible for maintaining the buildings and grounds, supporting site security, and helping keep the premises safe, clean and welcoming for students, staff and visitors.

The role is suited to someone practical, organised and hands-on with a flexible, proactive approach to repairs, health and safety, room setups and deliveries.

Qualifications

• Previous caretaking, maintenance or facilities experience is advantageous.
• Practical skills and a hands-on approach to repairs.
• Good awareness of health and safety procedures.
• Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to identify hazards and report maintenance issues.
• Flexible and proactive approach to site responsibilities.
• Willingness to complete all required safeguarding and background checks.
• The right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs.
• Inspect buildings, grounds and facilities for defects and hazards.
• Assist with opening and securing the premises as required.
• Keep entrances, corridors and communal areas clean and safe.
• Report significant repair needs and maintenance concerns.
• Help move furniture and prepare rooms for school activities.
• Assist with deliveries and storage of supplies.
• Monitor site security and report any issues.
• Support contractors and external maintenance teams when required.
• Follow health and safety procedures and school site policies.
