Job description

Vacancy Hours: 30 hours per week

Contract type: Permanent, Term Time Only

To start: As soon as possible

Location: Sleights Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, Ingham Cl, Sleights, Whitby YO22 5DN

Are you ready to be part of something really special?

Do you enjoy working in an environment where no day is the same?

Can you balance a busy phone line, with answering queries from families and staff, whilst administering the occasional first aid and maintaining a friendly face and welcoming smile?

Are you a friendly, hardworking and committed team player, ready to be part of something special?

Is a commitment to being part of a team that makes sure every child and family flourishes and succeeds the focus of your work?

If yes, then Sleights is the place for you! With our happy children, supportive families and dedicated staff team, our school is certainly an exciting place to be.

Nestled in the outskirts of Whitby, we are immensely proud to serve the village and surrounding communities who send their children to our busy Church school.

Our work is centred around our vision of "Working together to be happy; to flourish and succeed". In our school setting, we work hard to make sure every part of Team Sleights flourishes. At the heart of our all we do is a commitment that every child and family will succeed. We believe that children get just one chance. Our team works tirelessly to make this one chance count. Ofsted also recognise that Sleights goes "above and beyond" for its pupils and that our ambitions are high.

Everyone in our team believing and embracing this approach is essential. The team at Sleights is strong and work together to support and champion the children and community. We have high expectations of our children and each other. We are looking to appoint a School Administrator who will be a key member of our team and join us in celebrating and embracing this approach too.

Our opportunity

This is a very rare opportunity to take on a pivotal role in our wonderful school. We are looking to appoint a dedicated, highly motivated and enthusiastic School Administrator to play an essential role in Team Sleights. The main duties will include:

  • Acting as the first port of call for all visitors and families to the school. This will largely include communication over the telephone, in person in the office, or over email.
  • Working closely with the Headteacher and other staff to ensure the smooth operation of the school office.
  • Administrative duties, such as managing our school diary by communicating with staff, families and contractors.
  • Liaising with the school kitchen to manage record keeping relating to meal uptake and gathering payment from families accordingly.
  • Monitoring the day to day attendance of pupils, including following up any absence.
  • Organising school transport and trip administration, such as seeking parent permissions and coach hire.
  • Carrying out administrative duties relating to our Pre-School setting, including issuing invoices.
  • Both working from instructions but following your own initiative too.
  • Ordering school stock, including uniform and supplies.
  • Taking the minutes of the school governing body 'Finance and Premises Committee'

We are looking for:

  • A smiling and friendly face, who will act as a brilliant ambassador for our school when communicating with children, staff, families and visitors alike.
  • A great communicator – both in writing and in person.
  • Our office is a busy one, so it is important our School Administrator can adjust to the different demands a school office poses.
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with school MIS databases would be desirable, but not essential. Ideally, experience of working in a school office is preferred, but training can be provided.
  • A dedicated member of the team who loves working with children and their families, and cares greatly about the success of the school.
  • A team player who is keen to work with others to celebrate the joy and tackle the challenges of working in a bustling village school.
  • Someone who has the drive and ambition to achieve excellence in their own role, but also recognises the importance of this in the wider school work.

In return, we can offer you:

  • A happy school, underpinned by our Church of England ethos, where everyone is valued and respected.
  • Hardworking, enthusiastic and happy children, who are at the centre of all we do.
  • The support of the full staff team, who work closely to achieve the best for our children and each other.
  • A tailored induction programme, including support from colleagues across our school partnership (the Yorkshire Coast Education Partnership)

This post will commence as soon as possible, following the successful competition of recruitment checks.

Key Dates:

Interviews are planned for Tuesday 29th September.

Visits to the school, or an informal conversation with the Headteacher, are strongly encouraged.

We are committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate will be required for all posts. This post will be subject to enhanced checks as part of our Prevent Duty.
