Job description

Contract: Fixed Term Contract, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

Location: Manchester City Centre

Salary: £24,840 - £30,403 per annum

Closing Date: 12th May 2025

About us

We help vulnerable young people by giving them the practical and emotional support they need to find a job and live independently. Centrepoint provides homeless young people with accommodation, health support and life skills in order to get them back into education, training and employment. We want to end youth homelessness by 2037.

Together with our partners, we support over 16,000 young people each year.

Centrepoint operates a hybrid working model, however this post will require you to be on sight full time, with the option for a protected working from home day following the probationary period.

We are looking for a Rough Sleepers Initiative Support Worker to join ourhard-working Preventionteam in Manchester.

As a Rough Sleepers Initiative Support Worker, you will be required to work closely with the young people, and should be an excellent communicator with an approachable nature. You must be capable of dealing with the young people in a calm and understanding manner. You will be required to provide housing options advice and support to young people who are sleeping rough or at high risk of sleeping rough. You may currently or previously worked as a Support Worker, either residentially or floating.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Supporting young people in their journey with Centrepoint as the young person’s caseworker, co-producing holistic support plans and strengths and evidence based risk management plans that promote young people’s welfare and support them to achieve positive outcomes
  • Maintaining the highest possible standards of safeguarding practice; working in partnership with a range of internal, statutory and non-statutory services
  • Positively engaging in partnerships with a range of stakeholders, support agencies and partners, alongside Centrepoint teams such as health and education
  • Advocating, signposting and referring YP to a range of Centrepoint and community resources to support them to develop the skills, resilience and confidence to live independently and maintain employment
  • Ensuring when young people present to our services we provide a safe, welcoming, psychologically-informed environment, ensuring that their safety and wellbeing is at the centre of everything you do
  • Demonstrating Centrepoint’s Values and Behaviours, alongside a commitment to providing psychologically informed support and services that promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Proactively supporting YP to access education, employment and training opportunities that meet or exceed their aspirations

What we’d be looking for from you…

  • An understanding of the needs of homeless young people & in particular rough sleepers
  • A proven track record of engaging positively with vulnerable young people and young people presenting in crisis
  • Previous experience working in charity sectors, particularly in roles involving service delivery to young people.
  • Proficiency in IT and general administrative tasks, including the use of systems to record client data, with a keen awareness of GDPR principles.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Housing Benefit and Universal Credit legislation, with the ability to guide colleagues and young people through benefit applications.
  • Ability to present clear, factual reports both in writing and verbally, and to build strong working relationships with both internal and external partners.
  • A strong commitment to Centrepoint’s safeguarding policies, equality, and diversity in all work, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all young people and staff.
