Job summary

Octane Recruitment is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) for a national breakdown company with over 15 million members. The role offers a base salary of £36,400 with OTE in excess of £60,000 and potential to earn £70–£80k.

You will work 40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday, with overtime options. Benefits include pension, life insurance, career progression, share schemes, and free household breakdown cover.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally Level 3 qualification.
• Minimum of 2 years’ hands-on post-qualification experience with vehicles.
• Full UK driving licence – max 6 points, no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical roadside repairs (battery changes, wheel changes, minor engine fixes).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn’t possible to restore mobility.
• Advise members on next steps and recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments.

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.

What you’ll need to be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification hands‑on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.
• A customer-focused approach.
• Must have a full UK driving licence - max 6 points, no bans.
