Job description
Job Description

Join the RAC. A guaranteed overtime option to increase your base salary to £44,385, plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities. It works 40 hours per week, with core hours from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, and 1 in 4 Saturdays. As an RAC Mobile Mechanic in the Service, Maintenance and Repair division, you’ll bring expert vehicle maintenance and diagnostic skills directly to our customers, wherever they are. From driveways to office car parks, you’ll deliver first-class service without the constraints of a traditional garage. We’ll equip you for success from day one – with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.

Think independence, career progression, and real work‑life balance – with a 40‑hour week that keeps you moving and out of the same four walls. The RAC has been a trusted name for over 125 years, combining our heritage with bold innovation.

Benefits
  • Earnings That Motivate – enjoy a market‑competitive base salary of £38 625, with the opportunity to increase your earnings up to £50 000 through bonuses and premium‑rate overtime.
  • Full‑time 40‑hour week – Monday‑Saturday availability (8 am‑8 pm) offers flexibility and stability.
  • Opt‑in Guaranteed Overtime – after your first month, you can choose to work extra rest days at £30 per hour. Just one extra day a month could earn you £3 000 more per year on top of your base salary.
  • Tools to Drive Your Future – get started with a free RAC Ultimate Complete Breakdown Service from day one, plus access to a car salary‑sacrifice scheme (including electric vehicle options) after 12 months, delivering serious tax savings.
  • Time Off That Matters – enjoy 23 days of holiday (rising to 25 with service), plus bank holidays. We also support work‑life balance with paid family leave, flexible schedules and practical resources to help navigate personal commitments.
  • Financial Security & Perks – pension scheme with up to 6.5 % matched contributions alongside life assurance cover up to 4 × salary (10 × optional with flex benefits), designed to support you long‑term.
  • Extras That Make a Difference – access Orange Savings, our exclusive discount portal with deals across top retailers, holidays, tools, tech and more. After passing probation, you’ll automatically join our Colleague Share Scheme, giving you a stake in our collective success.
What You’ll Do

Our mechanics are out there on driveways, chatting with customers, giving advice, and representing the RAC with pride. Every fix, every chat, every driveway visit shows what we’re all about. Every day is a little different – servicing, diagnostics, repairs and checks. You’ll work on a range of light vehicles, adjusting to new challenges and different faces each day.

Qualifications
  • Level 2 light vehicle maintenance qualification (or equivalent).
  • At least three years’ hands‑on experience as a vehicle technician working with a range of light vehicles.
  • A full UK driving licence with fewer than six points.

At the RAC, individuality fuels innovation and you’re invited to bring your full self to it.
