The National Trust shop at Fountains Abbey, Ripon, is seeking a Retail Team Member to welcome visitors and help them enjoy their day. You’ll join a busy team, stock products, build displays, and talk to customers about how purchases fund the National Trust.
You’ll work weekends and holidays with varied hours; shifts commonly run from mid-morning to early evening, with training provided and online assessments used in recruitment.
We’re looking for a Retail Team Member to welcome visitors to the National Trust shop at Fountains Abbey, answer their questions and help them make the most of their day.
Salary: £12.75 per hour
Contract Duration: Permanent
Working Hours: You'll work 805 hours per year. This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year. You'll work 1 day per week between November and March, and 3 days per week between April and October. Typical shifts start at 10am and finish at 4:45pm, 5:15pm or 5:45pm, depending on the time of year. Weekend and Bank Holiday work is required, as well as occasional evening shifts in October.

The shop at Fountains Abbey is an important part of the visitor experience, and in this role you’ll develop your knowledge of the site, as well as learn about retail at the National Trust.
The shop is a busy and varied environment, stocking a range of products across multiple departments, including locally sourced goods and plants. You’ll join a team of hard-working and friendly staff and volunteers, and report to the Retail Manager
As a Retail Team Member, you’ll offer visitors help and shopping advice, working as a team to deliver great service. You’ll also be able to talk to them about how everything they buy helps to fund the work of the National Trust.
Other duties include receiving and unpacking deliveries, creating and maintaining displays both inside and outside, watering/looking after our plants, and keeping the shop floor and our storage facilities clean and organised. This role would suit anyone with a passion for delivering great customer service and an interest in learning about retail.
