Job summary

The National Trust is seeking a Food and Beverage Team Member at a rural site in Southwell. You will welcome guests, serve at the cafe, and help maintain high standards of food and drink while supporting the kitchen as needed.

No prior experience is required; induction and training are provided. This is a zero-hour contract with 1–2 days of work per week, mainly weekdays, with some weekends and Bank Holidays. Benefits include pension, free NT entry, and travel support.

Job description

We’re looking for a Food and Beverage Team Member! The National Trust is renowned for its food and hospitality. We run 185 cafes, tea-rooms and restaurants all over England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and we'd love you to join us. In this role, you’d be making a real difference to the work of the National Trust, as well as helping to give people a memorable day out.

This location is in a rural area, so please think about how you’d get here for work, before applying for the job.

Salary: £12.75 per hour

Contract duration:Fixed term until 28th February 2027

Contract type: This is a zero-hour contract, meaning we can’t guarantee a set number of hours each week. While we aim to provide a consistent work pattern, flexibility is needed as schedules may change based on business needs. We’ll try to give as much notice as possible. The role includes weekends and Bank Holidays, but does not require evening or split shifts.

Working Pattern: Although not guaranteed, we expect to offer 1 to 2 days of work per week, with shifts ranging from 4-6 hours in length. You will predominantly work weekdays, including Bank Holidays, with occasional weekend work required. There will also be the opportunity to work additional hours during peak periods, such as school holidays.

As a Team Member, your main focus will be front of house, dealing directly with people. You’ll welcome and look after everyone who comes to the café. With your love of working with people, your ‘can-do’ attitude and your desire to provide an outstanding service, you’ll be making sure everyone has an enjoyable time. This is a lively business that’s constantly on the go, so teamwork and adaptability are crucial.

You’ll be keen to understand what people want, to help them and to make recommendations. You’ll always keep the standards of food and drink preparation and presentation high. Using your excellent eye for detail, you’ll make sure all displays and signs are accurate and looking good. At times, you may need to help the kitchen team with preparing food.

We’ll give you an induction that fits the job, and training in allergens and food safety, plus any mentoring needed to help you in your role. You can sign up for further professional training and development if you wish.
