Job summary

Morrisons in Aberystwyth is seeking an experienced Retail Manager to lead the store floor and own the operational and commercial performance of your department. You will drive high standards, support the team, and create a fast-paced, customer-focused environment every day.

Reporting to the Store Manager, you will maintain product availability, visual standards and coach staff to deliver excellent customer service while managing stock, targets and safety compliance in a hands-on role.

Qualifications

• Experience in high-volume fresh food retail, commercial catering, food production or hospitality management.
• Forecasting, yield management, seasonal planning and short-life inventory management.
• Hands-on, high-energy leader who is visible on the shop floor.
• Strong communication and collaboration with store leadership.

Job description

As a Retail Manager, you will step out from behind the desk and onto the shop floor to act as a visionary leader for your store. You will take full operational and commercial ownership of your assigned department, driving high standards, supporting team performance, and ensuring a seamless, high-energy environment for customers every single day.

Reporting directly to the Store Manager, your main objective is to deliver outstanding operational performance, maintain excellent product availability and visual standards, and coach your team to deliver exceptional customer service.

What you'll be doing day-to-day:

• Lead and Develop People: Inspire, coach, and support the ongoing development of department supervisors, sales assistants, and team members.
• Maintain High Visual Standards: Lead sales floor setup and visual merchandising, ensuring products are showcased to drive customer engagement.
• Drive Commercial Performance: Take ownership of department sales targets, inventory control, waste management, and labour allocation to maximize profitability.
• Ensure Operational Compliance: Maintain top-tier safety standards, store policies, and regulatory compliance across all assigned areas.
• Elevate Customer Experience: Build a welcoming store atmosphere by encouraging your team to proactively engage with customers and resolve inquiries efficiently.

About you

• Proven Leadership Experience: Background in high-volume fresh food retail, commercial catering, food production, or hospitality management.
• Commercial Mindset: Solid understanding of production forecasting, yield management, seasonal planning, and managing short-life inventory.
• Hands-on Approach: A high-energy leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys being visible on the shop floor.
• Strong Communication Skills: Ability to build credibility with specialist team members and collaborate effectively with store executive leadership.
