Job summary

The Works Stores Ltd in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a Retail Deputy Manager for an 18-hour contract. You will support the Store Manager, lead the team, and deliver an exceptional customer experience while upholding high operational standards.

You’ll coach and develop colleagues, take ownership of stock, merchandising and compliance, and step in during the Store Manager’s absence. A hands-on, customer-focused leader who can manage priorities will help create a welcoming store and drive sales.

Qualifications

• Experience in a supervisory retail or customer service role.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead a team and make decisions.
• Organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Customer-focused with a passion for delivering great service.
• Flexible, reliable, hands-on approach.
• Experience in high-volume or value retail.
• Familiarity with retail systems and reporting tools.
• Experience supporting recruitment, training, or performance management.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team to deliver excellent customer service and store targets.
• Own stock management, merchandising, and compliance.
• Set high standards for service, presentation, and teamwork.
• Coach and develop team members with feedback and support.
• Manage store in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and training.
• Monitor performance and suggest sales improvements.
• Ensure health & safety, cash handling, and loss prevention.
