Introduction and overall purpose of the role
You will be the welcoming face of the John Howard Centre, providing every customer with a smile. You will be an experienced Barista with exceptional customer service skills.
You will be an inspirational leader, ensuring your teams communicate effectively with the chefs to provide seamless service.
Supporting the Catering Manager, you will lead a team of catering, domestic, and portering staff to deliver a fully integrated facilities service. Your responsibilities include managing teams to ensure efficient service in line with budgets and service standards, monitoring and reporting on quality and financial performance, and striving to improve service delivery to exceed customer expectations.
Main Duties & Responsibilities of the Role
- Ensure all marketing materials, point of sale, and Epos systems are up to date.
- Apply quality control measures to ensure service delivery meets specifications.
- Organise staffing levels according to budgeted hours, ensuring adequate cover.
- Recruit, induct, train, and develop catering staff following company procedures, including mandatory training.
- Maintain employee attendance records for holiday and sickness.
- Ensure staff report for duty on time, using the Timegate system.
- Weekly check that shifts are entered into the Timegate system, including site cover and overtime.
- Manage the AIP (Honeydew) system for all employees, including return-to-work and absence meetings, reporting monthly to the Contract Manager.
- Direct activities of subordinates, ensuring they are trained and adhere to health and safety procedures.
- Report all adverse events and near misses as per company procedures.
- Complete counselling notes, file notes, and investigatory hearings as required.
- Oversee equipment and machinery, reporting defects to the line manager.
- Ensure all equipment is clean, maintained, and stored properly.
- Order and control consumables and materials within budgets.
- Monitor quality in partnership with the Trust, ensuring compliance with contract specifications.
- Manage cash and cash accounting on site according to company policy.
- Conduct monthly stocktakes for consumables, foods, and non-food items.
- Respond to reactive jobs promptly and discuss ongoing issues with the Contract Manager for improvements.
- Carry out periodic/deep cleaning as scheduled, completing associated forms.
- Produce and communicate safe work systems prior to activities.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Ensure staff wear correct uniforms at all times.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by the Catering Manager or company.
- Complete all catering and cleaning paperwork and audits to company standards, filing appropriately for audits.

- Food Safety Level 3
- IOSH
- Health & Safety Level 3
- Driving licence – not essential
