Job summary

Marks & Spencer is seeking an experienced engineering, construction or property professional to own and deliver building specifications for our retail estate. You will develop standards across structural, civil, fire and methodology domains, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and sustainability targets.

You will collaborate with M&E, store equipment teams, external design partners and cost management to drive value engineering and ensure specifications are fit for purpose across a

Qualifications

• 5+ years in engineering, construction or building specifications for retail stores or buildings.
• Experience on complex fit-out projects; client-side experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Fire, Health & Safety and Building Regulations incl Building Safety Act 2022 and CDM 2015.
• Degree in civil/structural engineering or building surveying; equivalent industry experience.
• Experience with NEC and JCT contracts; due diligence with property legal teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve building specification standards across disciplines.
• Work with M&E, Refrigeration and Store Equipment teams to avoid clashes and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical solutions, support sustainability and cost efficiency.
• Review external design teams’ output and support acquisitions, legal, construction and FM with guidance.
• Collaborate with feasibility, partners and cost management on tender docs and value engineering.
