Job Summary

The post will be flexibly time-tabled to meet the demands of the service, and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops.

A typical week would consist of 10 Programmed Activities (PA's):

  • Inpatient care on the Respiratory wards at NSECH
  • Respiratory clinics at NTGH, WGH, and HGH
  • Admin and audit: Regional teaching plus monthly SpR teaching
  • Opportunity to attend Bronchoscopy and EBUS and gain experience, provided above activities are covered
  • Contribution to the Respiratory Fellow rota

Job Responsibilities

Management Responsibilities

  • Undertake administrative duties related to patient care and clinical area management as required by senior management. Drive standards through clear, explicit direction, and encourage constructive feedback and challenge.
  • Make solution-focused decisions based on facts, involving appropriate professional contributions.
  • Demonstrate financial awareness and understand decision impacts.
  • Delegate tasks effectively with realistic expectations.
  • Comply with health and safety policies and procedures.

Communication and Working Relationships

  • Approach patients with empathy and sensitivity, recognizing individual work-life needs.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills, influencing and negotiating appropriately within the organization. Be approachable, inclusive, cooperative, caring, and a good listener.

Teaching and Research

Expected to undertake undergraduate teaching, including assessment and feedback for medical students and junior doctors. Research is encouraged, supported by the Trust’s R&D Department.

Clinical Audit and Governance

Participate in clinical audits, monitor standards, and support evidence-based guidelines. The Clinical Excellence Department offers assistance with audit and governance issues.

Continued Professional Development

Support for lifelong learning, personal development planning, and leadership skills development. Reflective practice and feedback are integral to the role.
