Spotify is seeking a Staff Data Engineer for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain to define long-term data strategy, design scalable batch and streaming platforms, and partner with product, engineering, data science, analytics, and platform teams to turn business challenges into durable data solutions.

You will mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and help build a data ecosystem capable of supporting one billion users, maximizing scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
• Strong background in modern data modeling, metadata management, governance and data quality practices.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain.
• Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms powering analytics, experimentation, ML and subscriber experiences.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics and Platform teams to turn complex business challenges into durable data solutions.
• Lead architectural decisions and establish engineering best practices for data quality, governance, observability, reliability across multiple squads.
• Design data models and platform architecture to support growth toward one billion users while balancing performance, cost and maintainability.
• Simplify complex systems, reduce technical debt, and improve the developer experience across the broader data ecosystem.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of thoughtful engineering and knowledge sharing.
