Job summary

Spotify is seeking a Staff Data Engineer for the Subscriptions User Understanding team. You will define the long-term direction of our data ecosystem, design scalable batch and streaming platforms, and partner across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Platform teams.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, improve data quality and observability, and balance performance with cost as we scale toward one billion users.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
• Experience with distributed data pipelines and modern data tooling.
• Strong communication and collaboration across product, engineering, data science and analytics teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain.
• Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms powering analytics, experimentation, ML, and subscriber experiences.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics and Platform teams to translate complex business needs into durable data solutions.
• Lead architectural decisions and establish engineering best practices for data quality, governance, observability and reliability across squads.
• Design data models and platform architecture to support scalable growth to one billion users while balancing performance and cost.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of thoughtful engineering and knowledge sharing.
