Job summary

Spotify is seeking a Staff Data Engineer for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain. You will define the long-term data strategy, build scalable cloud-native data platforms, and lead architecture across multiple squads to enable analytics, experimentation, and machine learning at scale.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product and platform teams, and shape data governance, quality, and observability as the system grows toward a billion users.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
• Deep experience building reliable distributed data pipelines with Scio, BigQuery, Dataflow, GCS, SQL or Python.
• Strong understanding of modern data modeling, metadata management, governance, and data quality practices.
• Ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction across teams.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain.
• Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms powering analytics, experimentation, ML and subscriber experiences.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Platform teams to translate business problems into durable data solutions.
• Lead architectural decisions and establish engineering best practices for data quality, governance, observability, and reliability.
• Design data models and platform architecture to support growth toward one billion users with performance and cost balance.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of thoughtful engineering and knowledge sharing.
