Job summary

Mercor is seeking a PhD-level physicist to tackle research-level physics problems in their chosen subfield. Candidates should have published work relevant to one of five specified areas and demonstrate strong written reasoning in English.

The role is a remote, short-term contract requiring about 10 hours per week over an 8 to 10 week window. Compensation is $80 to $110 per hour, with the work conducted asynchronously and with no fixed hours.

Qualifications

• PhD in statistical physics, mathematical physics or a closely related field.
• Publications in the field with verifiable arXiv IDs or DOIs, preferably last five years.
• Excellent written reasoning and English at B2 or above.
• Proficiency with LaTeX, Python, SymPy and Jupyter; familiarity with VS Code is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Engage with research-level physics problems in your subfield and contribute complete, verifiable reasoning.
• Publish or review work in your assigned area; write detailed explanations for independent verification.
• Work remotely on a part-time basis across a 8–10 week window, with a 10 hours/week commitment.
• Assist in matching to one of five research areas and provide justification through your own papers.
