Job summary

Obsidian is seeking researchers to work on CritPt, a public benchmark of research-level physics challenges. You will tackle problem sets in your subfield, produce complete reasoning, and have papers checked against public records.

This is a remote, part-time engagement over 8–10 weeks with a rate of $80 to $110 per hour. Applicants should have a PhD in statistical physics or a closely related field, and a publication record demonstrating the specific phenomena listed.

Qualifications

• PhD in statistical physics, mathematical physics, or closely related field.
• Publications on the specified phenomena, ideally within the last five years.
• Three to five representative papers with arXiv IDs or DOIs; first author preferred.
• Proficiency in LaTeX, Python, SymPy, and Jupyter; familiarity with an agentic VS Code extension.

Responsibilities

• Engage in research-level physics problems in your subfield.
• Produce complete, verifiable reasoning for each assignment.
• Collaborate remotely with matching areas and senior researchers.
