Job summary

The University of Law is seeking a Learning Analytics Specialist to lead the use of analytics across our Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching team. This hands-on role focuses on turning detailed data into clear insights that support student success, retention and teaching effectiveness.

You will develop dashboards, pipelines and integrations, work with Blackboard Ultra, StREAM and other systems, and translate complex analysis into practical guidance for academic and professional services

Qualifications

• Experience applying learning analytics or engagement data within higher education.
• Strong data analysis skills with SQL, Python, R and BI tools.
• Experience with APIs, data integration and data modelling.
• Strong data literacy and data visualization.
• Knowledge of Blackboard Ultra data structures and analytics integrations.
• Knowledge of data provision for StREAM by Kortext.
• Ability to communicate complex analytical findings to non-technical audiences.
• Commitment to ethical, inclusive, student-centred use of data.

Responsibilities

• Analyse large datasets to identify patterns in student engagement, progression and outcomes.
• Develop and maintain dashboards, reports and early alert mechanisms.
• Extract, transform and analyse data from multiple systems, including Blackboard Ultra, SIS, CRM and attendance systems.
• Develop and maintain automated data pipelines, reporting workflows and data integrations using APIs and data warehouses.
• Use statistical, predictive and/or machine learning techniques where appropriate.
• Lead or support implementation and optimisation of learning analytics platforms, including Illuminate Enhanced and STREAM.
• Evaluate data and interventions to identify improvements.
• Turn complex analytical findings into clear, practical insights for academic and professional services colleagues.
• Provide expert advice on data quality, analytics and system configuration.
• Explore and test new approaches to learning analytics and engagement monitoring.
• Ensure the use of student data is responsible, transparent and compliant with GDPR and University requirements.
