Job summary

Wiltshire Council is seeking a zero-hour Variable Relief Library Assistant to cover holiday and sickness across the library service. You will help customers, assist with locating books and information, and support IT, while ensuring attractive displays and stock promotion. Training is provided and GCSEs are required.

Working with a hybrid model, on-site hours are balanced with flexible admin/work location. This role is ideal for adaptable individuals who enjoy community service and customer

Qualifications

  • At least 5 GCSEs including English and Maths grade A-C or equivalent.
  • No prior library experience required; training provided.
  • Strong customer service and IT basic skills.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly, and resilient person to join our Library team as a zero-hour Variable Relief Library Assistant. This role requires flexibility to cover all operating hours of the library, primarily for holiday and sickness cover, ensuring a high-quality service to our customers.

As a Relief Library Assistant, you will assist customers with queries, help them to find books and information, and support them with IT. You will help keep the library looking attractive by shelving, displays and promoting our stock and resources.

Previous library experience is not essential as we will train you in all aspects of library work.

You will need to have at least 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths, grade A - C or equivalent.

As a casual worker, you will have no fixed hours and will work on an as-needed basis, depending on Wiltshire Council's requirements and your availability. You are not obligated to be available, and the council is not obliged to offer you work.
