Job summary

NHS Scotland in Inverness seeks Emergency Call Handlers to join the North Ambulance Control Centre. You will be the first contact for callers, providing life‑saving advice, triaging calls and coordinating with ambulance crews and police when needed.

Training is provided in-house, including two weeks of initial sessions, with full‑time relief and part‑time rostered hours, including bank holidays and unsocial hours pay rates. Readiness to work under pressure is essential.

Qualifications

• Typing ability: 30 words per minute with 90% accuracy.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise under pressure.
• Experience working with the public in a fast-paced environment (ACCs, healthcare, or contact centres).

Responsibilities

• Answer 999 calls promptly and provide life‑saving advice where needed.
• Prioritise calls and liaise with ambulance crews and other emergency services.
• Act as first point of contact and deliver essential guidance to callers.
• Work within the control centre to support fast, accurate decision making.
