Gateshead Council is seeking an experienced Regulation & Compliance Service Manager to lead a diverse range of regulatory and enforcement services. You will balance strategic leadership with customer-focused delivery in a complex legislative environment.

You’ll provide direction across Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing, Environmental Protection and Enforcement, ensuring compliance and safeguarding the public while supporting local businesses. Hybrid working is offered.

Qualifications

• Degree or professional qualification in Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing or related field.
• Membership of relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH, CTSI, IoL) with ongoing development.
• Extensive knowledge of local authority regulatory and public protection services.
• Strong understanding of licensing, enforcement, environmental protection, trading standards and compliance legislation.
• Experience with enforcement processes, investigations, evidence handling and legal proceedings.

• Provide professional, technical and operational leadership across regulatory and compliance services.
• Lead, motivate and develop high-performing teams and managers.
• Oversee delivery of statutory and non-statutory regulatory services with robust governance.
• Influence policy, shape service delivery and drive continuous improvement.
• Manage budget, procurement and resource planning with risk management.
• Advise elected Members and partners on regulatory matters and collaborate with regulators.
