Job summary

Gateshead Council is seeking an experienced Regulation & Compliance Service Manager to lead a diverse portfolio of regulatory services, protecting communities and businesses while delivering high-quality public services.

You will provide strategic leadership, manage resources, and drive continuous improvement, working closely with elected Members and partner organisations in a hybrid working environment.

Qualifications

• Degree, diploma or equivalent in Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing or related field.
• Membership of a relevant professional body with ongoing professional development.
• Extensive knowledge of local authority regulatory and public protection services.
• Strong understanding of licensing, enforcement, environmental protection and compliance legislation.
• Experience leading regulatory, compliance or public protection services in local government.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership across regulatory and compliance services.
• Lead, motivate and develop high-performing teams and managers.
• Ensure delivery of statutory and non-statutory functions efficiently, lawfully and safely.
• Oversee investigations, enforcement activity and regulatory interventions.
• Advise elected Members and committees on regulatory matters and policy implications.
