Job summary

Smiths News plc is seeking a field-based Regional Operations Manager for Scotland in Final Mile. You will oversee multi-site final mile delivery operations, ensure productivity, safety, and cost control, and lead Depot Managers to develop high-performing teams.

The role requires strategic planning, strong communication with senior leadership, and continuous improvement drive. You will monitor KPIs, standardise processes using OE methods, and report on weekly performance and project milestones.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in multi-site operations management within logistics, delivery, or final mile sectors.
• Strong leadership skills with demonstrated success in managing and developing high-performing teams.
• Deep understanding of health & safety regulations and compliance in logistics and final mile operations.
• Financial management experience, including budget oversight, cost control, and P&L analysis.
• Proficient in logistics management software, including WMS, TMS, and real-time delivery tracking systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills with a focus on operational efficiency.
• Outstanding communication skills for managing teams and engaging with senior leadership.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is advantageous.
• Degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or related field is advantageous.
• Professional certifications (e.g., CILT, PRINCE2, ILM, CMI, Lean Six Sigma, NEBOSH) are an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Oversee final mile delivery operations across multi-site locations to ensure productivity and service quality.
• Lead Depot Managers and teams, driving development and high performance.
• Ensure health & safety compliance and adherence to company policies.
• Manage budgets, cost control, and monthly cost management reporting.
• Provide weekly performance reports covering KPIs across sites in the region.
• Develop improvement plans for underperforming sites with timelines and milestones.
• Track alignment with broader company goals and initiatives.
