Job summary

Smiths News is seeking an experienced Senior Operations Manager to lead multi-site final mile operations from our Swindon area. You will drive operational efficiency, ensure health and safety compliance, and develop Depot Managers and teams to high performance.

This role requires strong financial management, KPI reporting, and the ability to align site initiatives with broader company goals. A track record in Lean Six Sigma or similar methodologies is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in multi-site operations management within logistics, delivery, or final mile sectors.
• Strong leadership skills with success in developing high-performing teams.
• Deep understanding of health & safety regulations and compliance in logistics and final mile operations.
• Financial management experience, including budget oversight, cost control, and P&L analysis.

Responsibilities

• Oversee final mile delivery operations across multiple sites to optimise service quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and company policies across all sites.
• Lead and develop Depot Managers and their teams to maintain high performance and engagement.
• Address operational challenges quickly to minimise any negative impact on service delivery.
• Implement standardised processes using OE methodology for consistency across sites.
• Prepare weekly performance reports and quarterly strategic alignment with senior leadership.
