Job summary

Auto Skills UK is seeking an experienced Refrigeration Engineer to service and repair transport refrigeration units across HGVs, trailers and vans. The role offers on-site work, full UK driving licence requirements and upskilling opportunities with comprehensive training.

You will be responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out preventative maintenance and ensuring high safety and quality standards in a busy commercial vehicle environment.

Qualifications

• F-Gas qualification (C&G #removed#).
• Experience diagnosing mechanical, electrical and refrigeration faults.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Good customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, maintain and repair transport refrigeration systems on HGVs, trailers and LCVs.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic and refrigeration faults.
• Install refrigeration units to trailers, HGVs and LCVs.
• Record work, parts and service information accurately.
• Work independently at customer sites and on-call rota as required.
• Support workshop team and apprentices as needed.

Salary: Up to £20 per hour, depending on experience

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Contract: Permanent

Overtime: Available at time and a half

On-Call: 1 weekend in 5

We're recruiting for an experienced Refrigeration Engineer to join a well-established commercial vehicle maintenance operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled refrigeration engineer to work on a variety of transport refrigeration systems, with ongoing training, development and excellent long-term career opportunities.

Experienced HGV and LCV Technicians with a strong mechanical or electrical background may also be considered, with full training and support available to develop into a specialist Refrigeration Engineer.

The Role

You will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of transport refrigeration systems fitted to HGVs, trailers and light commercial vehicles.

Duties will include:

• Servicing and repairing transport refrigeration units across various makes and models
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, electronic and refrigeration faults
• Installing refrigeration units to trailers, HGVs and LCVs
• Carrying out preventative maintenance and inspections
• Working independently at customer sites and away from the workshop
• Participating in a 1-in-5 on-call rota for out-of-hours breakdowns
• Carrying out first-time fixes wherever possible
• Managing van stock and ensuring the correct parts are available
• Accurately recording work, parts and service information
• Supporting other workshop team members and apprentices when required
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety and workshop cleanliness

HGV Technician - Refrigeration Training Opportunity

If you're an experienced HGV or LCV Technician with a strong mechanical or electrical background but don't currently have refrigeration experience, this could still be an excellent opportunity.

The company is willing to upskill the right HGV Technician into a specialist HGV Refrigeration Engineer, providing training and support to develop your refrigeration knowledge and qualifications.

You'll gain experience working on modern refrigeration systems while building on your existing HGV/LCV mechanical and electrical skills.

About You

For an experienced Refrigeration Engineer, we're looking for:

• Experience working with transport refrigeration systems
• F-Gas qualification - C&G #removed#
• Experience diagnosing mechanical, electrical and refrigeration faults
• Transport refrigeration installation experience
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Good customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
• Self-motivated and hardworking approach
• Fleet or commercial vehicle experience desirable

For HGV/LCV Technicians looking to upskill:

• Previous HGV or LCV Technician experience
• Strong mechanical and/or electrical background
• Good diagnostic and fault-finding skills
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Genuine interest in developing a specialist refrigeration skillset
