Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Ripon. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build strong relationships with customers in your local area. The role involves outdoor work, varied routes, and a rotating shift including weekends.

You must hold a full manual UK driving licence, pass a driving assessment, and be physically fit to handle 10kg+ mailbags. Training is provided, with a uniform and a red Royal Mail van.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points) and willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily.
• Physically fit to walk long distances and lift/mailbags up to 10kg+.
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to work outdoors in all weather.

Location: Ripon Delivery Office, HG4 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30.00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 9:00-15:40*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
