Job summary

Tarmac is recruiting for a Multi Skilled Operative to join the Douglasmuir Sand and Gravel Quarry team near Glasgow. The role involves operating mobile plant and coordinating with the team to ensure quality material and timely deliveries.

Training will be provided for the right candidate. Candidates should have good communication skills, be self-motivated, and hold a full UK Driving Licence with IT literacy.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Plant and ideally previous experience in quarry or mobile plant operations.
• Shovel and dump truck licence – desirable.
• Be flexible and able to work as part of an effective multi-skilled operative team.
• Be self-motivated and able to motivate other colleagues in the team.
• Good timekeeping and flexibility to Units requirements.
• Good communication skills and ability to raise issues with Line Management.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• IT literate.

Responsibilities

• Operate the mobile plant including articulated dump trucks, loading shovel, and excavators.
• Work with team to ensure customers receive good quality material and on‑time deliveries.
• Assist Supervisor with meeting daily/weekly production targets.
• Ensure Plant conforms with safety requirements at all times.
• Adhere to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies.
• Inspect the Plant and address defects; implement remedial actions.
• Assist in maintenance regime of the Plant and maximise plant availability.
• Maintain high standard of site housekeeping.

Multi Skilled Operative

to join our amazing team at our Tarmac Douglasmuir Sand and Gravel Quarry, Milngavie in Glasgow. As well as Glasgow, this role is easily accessible from Cumbernauld, East Kilbride, Largs, Carluke, Kilmarnock and surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Section Manager the duties of the

Operative

will include the day-to-day operations of fixed and mobile plant.

Your role as a

Operative

will include:

Working with other members of the team to ensure that customers get good quality material and on-time deliveries

Operation of the mobile plant including articulated dump trucks, loading shovel, and excavators (mobile plant).

Assisting the Supervisor with meeting daily/weekly production targets

Ensuring Plant conforms with safety requirements at all times

Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality responsibilities

Following Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures

Inspections on the Plant and acting on defects and implement remedial action

Assisting in the maintenance regime of the Plant

Ensuring that Plant availability is maximised

Working to keep housekeeping around site to a high standard

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of

Operative

will be able to demonstrate proven experience working within an Industrial, Factory or similar environment as an operative or labourer. As well as possessing good communication skills and have a real desire in developing both operative and supervisory skills.

To succeed in this role we would expect a candidate to evidence:

Knowledge of Plant and ideally possess previous experience in quarry or mobile Plant operations

Shovel and dump truck Licence – desirable

Be flexible and able to work as part of an effective Multi-Skilled Operative team

Be self motivated and able to motivate other colleagues in the team

Good timekeeping – flexible as to the Units requirements

Good communication skills – bringing problems to the attention of Line Management

Full UK Driving Licence

IT Literate

Previous experience as a

Operative

working in a Quarry would prove highly beneficial however this is not essential as training will be given to the right candidate.
