Job summary

Medacs Healthcare is seeking a Locum Anaesthetic Nurse to support Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford. If you’re HCPC/NMC registered with UK anaesthetic experience and seeking flexible shifts, this role offers weekday or full-time locum opportunities across surgical specialties.

As part of a multi-skilled anaesthetic team you’ll assist in anaesthetic delivery, prep equipment and drugs, monitor patients, and respond rapidly to changes. The role requires ILS/Paediatric ILS and UK right to work.

Qualifications

• HCPC or NMC registration (RGN/ODP) is required.
• Minimum of 6 months UK operating theatre experience.
• Right to work in the UK; no visa sponsorship available.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• ILS or Paediatric ILS certification is preferred.
• Mentoring or teaching qualification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and delivery of anaesthetic procedures.
• Support the team with equipment and drugs, ensuring patient airway safety.
• Monitor patients throughout the anaesthetic process.
• Respond promptly to changes or complications during surgery.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll be part of a multi-skilled anaesthetic team delivering safe, high-quality care across a range of surgical specialties, including:

Head & Neck

Obstetrics & Gynaecology

General Surgery

Urology

Vascular

You'll will be:

responsible for assisting in the preparation and delivery of anaesthetic procedures for patients undergoing surgery

supporting the team to prepare a wide range of specialist equipment and drugs, including anaesthetic machines, intravenous equipment and devices that safely secure the patient's airway during anesthesia

responsible for monitoring patients throughout the anaesthetic process

responding quickly to any changes or complications that may arise

What You'll Need

HCPC or NMC Registration (RGN/ODP)

Minimum of 6 months UK based Operating Theatre experience

Right to work in the UK (No visa sponsorship is available for this role)

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Immediate Life Support (ILS) / Paediatric ILS
