Medacs Healthcare is seeking a Locum Scrub Practitioner to support Royal Stoke Hospital in Stoke-On-Trent. You'll join a multi-disciplinary theatre team delivering high-quality surgical care across several specialties.

This agency role offers weekday-based shifts and full flexibility to fit your lifestyle. Essential: HCPC or NMC registration (RGN/ODP), at least 6 months UK operating theatre experience, and right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating theatre and ensure sterile instruments and materials are ready for use.
  • Set up instrument trays and check equipment functionality.
  • Assist surgeons by passing instruments and handling specimens.
  • Monitor sterile field and maintain workflow.
  • Document counts and post-operative duties including disposal and decontamination.

Salary: £15.70- £33.51 per hour

Contract Type: Agency

Location: Royal Stoke Hospital, Stoke-On-Trent

Shift Patterns: Available Monday to Friday 08:00-18:00

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll be part of a multi-skilled scrub team delivering safe, high-quality care across a range of surgical specialties, including:

  • Orthopaedics & Trauma
  • Head & Neck
  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • General Surgery
  • Urology
  • Vascular
You will be:
  • responsible for preparing the operating theatre, ensuring all surgical instruments, equipment, and materials are sterile, complete, and ready for use
  • supporting the surgical team by setting up instrument trays, checking equipment functionality, and maintaining a sterile environment throughout the procedure
  • responsible for directly assisting surgeons during operations by anticipating needs, passing instruments, handling specimens, and ensuring all items are accounted for
  • monitoring the sterile field and responding quickly to any issues, such as equipment problems, breaks in sterility, or changes in the surgical workflow
  • ensuring accurate surgical counts before, during, and after the procedure to maintain patient safety
  • supporting post-operative duties, including safe disposal of equipment, instrument decontamination, and documentation
What You'll Need
Essential:
  • HCPC or NMC Registration (RGN/ODP)
  • Minimum of 6 months UK based Operating Theatre experience
  • Right to work in the UK (No visa sponsorship is available for this role)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable:
  • Immediate Life Support (ILS) / Paediatric ILS
  • Mentoring or teaching qualification
