Medacs Healthcare is recruiting locum Scrub Practitioners to support several surgical specialties at Broomfield Hospital. If you are UK scrub experienced and seeking flexibility, career progression, and a dynamic theatre environment, this is for you.

You'll join a multi-skilled scrub team, work across head & neck, obstetrics, general surgery, urology, and vascular, and play a key role in prepping theatres, maintaining sterility, and assisting surgeons during operations.

Qualifications

• HCPC or NMC Registration (RGN/ODP).
• Minimum of 6 months UK Operating Theatre experience.
• Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• ILS or Paediatric ILS.
• Mentoring or teaching qualifications are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating theatre and ensure instruments and materials are sterile.
• Set up instrument trays, check equipment, and maintain sterility during procedures.
• Directly assist surgeons by handing instruments and handling specimens.
• Monitor sterile field and address any issues affecting workflow.
• Ensure accurate surgical counts for patient safety.
• Assist with post-operative duties and instrument decontamination.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll be part of a multi-skilled scrub team delivering safe, high-quality care across a range of surgical specialties, including:

• Head & Neck
• Obstetrics & Gynaecology
• General Surgery
• Urology
• Vascular

You will be:

• responsible for preparing the operating theatre, ensuring all surgical instruments, equipment, and materials are sterile, complete, and ready for use
• supporting the surgical team by setting up instrument trays, checking equipment functionality, and maintaining a sterile environment throughout the procedure
• responsible for directly assisting surgeons during operations by anticipating needs, passing instruments, handling specimens, and ensuring all items are accounted for
• monitoring the sterile field and responding quickly to any issues, such as equipment problems, breaks in sterility, or changes in the surgical workflow
• ensuring accurate surgical counts before, during, and after the procedure to maintain patient safety
• supporting post-operative duties, including safe disposal of equipment, instrument decontamination, and documentation

What You'll Need

• Immediate Life Support (ILS) / Paediatric ILS
