Job summary

Amey is seeking a permanent Civil Engineer to join the Structures Assessments team in York, with hybrid working and a minimum 3 days in the office weekly. The role focuses on railway structure inspection, assessment and design across multiple asset types, within an evolving technical team.

You will contribute to calculations, reports and drawings, lead site inspections, mentor junior staff, and ensure compliance with HSEQ standards, CDM regulations, and client requirements.

Qualifications

• Railway structure inspection, assessment and design experience.
• Experience with major construction materials including historical materials.
• Knowledge of health, safety, environmental and sustainability legislation.
• Experience with Network Rail routes/highways England standards.
• Driving license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and check technical assessment/design remits, calculations, reports and drawings, ensuring sound engineering solutions and compliance with standards and client requirements.
• Prepare for and carry out site inspections for assessments, providing on-site technical leadership where required.
• Comply with technical standards and the Amey Integrated Management System including HSEQ documentation.
• Maintain knowledge of industry best practice and apply independent engineering judgement within the team.
• Mentor less experienced staff in producing drawings, reports and feedback.
• Engage with clients and third parties to maintain strong working relationships.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental requirements, including CDM Regulations, are applied in a defined proportion of CAFA work.
• Assist with cost estimates and delivery of commissions to programme and budget.
