Job summary

South Western Railway is hiring a Rail Operator (Station Assistant) to help dispatch trains safely and keep stations presented to high standards. You will provide up-to-date travel information to customers and support them to reach their destinations on time.

The role requires a safety-critical mindset, medical clearance (vision/hearing), and flexibility to work shifts across the week, including Sundays. Full training is provided and a welcoming team culture is emphasised.

Qualifications

• Safety critical role requiring medical including vision and hearing tests.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for customer service.
• Willingness to work shifts including weekends and unsociable hours.

Responsibilities

• Safely dispatch trains from platforms and ensure customers are clear before departure.
• Provide passenger assistance with luggage and boarding, including ramps.
• Keep customers informed with clear announcements and friendly interactions.
• Ensure station meets safety and quality standards, including cleaning and fault checks.
