Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a motivated Safety Consultant to join our Rail team. This role focuses on safety engineering and assurance across diverse rail projects, with exposure to EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508 and CSM-RA.

You will work with experienced professionals, developing technical and consultancy skills while supporting safety evidence, approvals and new rail technologies. Hybrid working options offered across the UK.

Qualifications

• Engineering, technical or safety-related qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience in safety engineering or safety assurance within rail.
• Familiarity with EN50126/EN50129/IEC 61508/CSM-RA is desirable.
• Exposure to safety assurance, safety approvals or risk assessment.
• Interest in rail infrastructure, signalling technologies and rail safety.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; clear communication.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary project teams and manage priorities.
• Willingness to travel UK and internationally where needed.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of safety engineering and assurance services across rail projects.
• Apply safety methods and tools in line with EN50126/EN50129/IEC 61508/CSM-RA.
• Contribute to safety assurance activities for major infrastructure projects.
• Support safety approvals and CSM activities, developing safety evidence.
• Contribute to safety for new products/technologies, signalling systems.
• Assist with preparation/review of safety documentation and reports.
• Collaborate with clients and engineers to meet project requirements.
• Contribute to proposals and bids, understanding commercial aspects.
• Build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Manage your activities and priorities across projects with guidance.
• Pursue ongoing professional development in rail safety engineering.
