Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland invites applications for a System Safety Engineer to provide expert safety guidance on large, complex rail projects. You will lead smaller projects, chair risk assessment workshops, and prepare safety documentation under the mentorship of our senior team.

We value Chartered/ Incorporated Engineer status, SaRS/IET/IMechE membership, and good knowledge of CSM-RA Regulation, with opportunities to advance in a global firm across London, Manchester, Bristol or Birmingham.

Qualifications

• Degree in a technical engineering discipline or extensive relevant experience.
• Post-graduate experience in system safety engineering (rail desirable).
• Corporate membership with SaRS, IET or IMechE is preferred.
• Professional registration or working towards registration as Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
• Familiarity with Engineering Safety Management (e.g. iESM or Yellow Book).
• Knowledge of CSM-RA Regulation on UK rail projects.
• Knowledge/background in mainline or metro railway discipline (signalling, telecoms, E&P).
• Desirable: EN 50126/8/9, EN50121 (EMC) and cyber security; assessor experience; project/ commercial management experience; consultancy environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead on smaller projects under senior guidance, including planning, supporting and chairing Hazard Identification and/or Risk Assessment workshops.
• Prepare System Definitions, Safety Plans, Hazard Records and Safety Justification Reports applying CSM-RA.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to develop designs, technical standards, specifications and requirements for rail projects.
• Act as Project Manager for smaller projects with support from the senior team.
• Support and mentor more junior engineers within the SEIA group.
