Job summary

WSP is seeking a motivated Safety Consultant to join our Rail team in the UK. You will support safety engineering and assurance activities across diverse rail projects, working with multidisciplinary teams to apply standards and deliver safety evidence.

You will grow your technical and consultancy skills by contributing to risk assessments, safety documentation, and client engagement, with opportunities to take on greater responsibility as you progress.

Qualifications

• Relevant engineering, technical or safety qualification or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of safety engineering, safety assurance or systems engineering in rail or safety-critical environments.
• Familiarity with standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508 and CSM-RA.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of safety engineering and assurance services across rail engineering projects.
• Apply safety methods and tools in line with EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508 and CSM-RA.
• Contribute to safety assurance activities for major infrastructure, signalling and other rail projects.
• Support safety approvals and CSM activities, helping teams develop safety evidence.
• Contribute to safety assurance for new products and technologies, including signalling systems.
• Assist with preparation and review of safety documentation and technical reports.
• Work with clients, engineers and other specialists to understand project requirements.
• Contribute to proposals and bids, adding commercial and consultancy insight.
• Build relationships with clients and industry stakeholders.
• Manage activities and priorities across projects with guidance from seniors.
• Advance own professional development in rail safety engineering and assurance.
