Job summary

Clearfield Recruitment Limited seeks a Quantity Surveyor specialising in Civils projects to join the team in Bury St Edmunds. You will oversee all cost management aspects for civil engineering works, ensuring projects stay within budget while upholding high standards of quality and safety.

You will drive accurate cost estimation, cost control, and contractual management to support complex infrastructure developments, including earthworks, drainage, and pavements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering / infrastructure / groundwork projects.
• Familiarity with cost control techniques for civils works including earthworks, drainage, pavements, and structural elements.
• Experience with estimating software and project management tools.
• Excellent understanding of contractual frameworks such as NEC or FIDIC contracts.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for civil engineering projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Monitor project expenditures continuously, comparing actual costs against budgets to identify variances early.
• Implement robust cost control measures to optimise resource utilisation and prevent budget overruns throughout project lifecycle.
• Manage contractual agreements with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with scope and financial terms.
• Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, verify quantities, and ensure work aligns with contractual specifications.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to provide accurate financial insights and support decision-making.
• Maintain comprehensive records of all financial transactions, change orders, and variations for audit readiness and reporting purposes.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills to liaise confidently with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
• A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering is highly desirable.
