Job summary

Romans Recruitment Group Ltd is seeking two experienced Quantity Surveyors to join a civil engineering and groundworks contractor. Roles cover either the Essex/M11 Corridor or the Western Corridor, with hybrid/remote working available and a salary range of £70,000–£100,000 depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering, infrastructure or groundworks.
• Strong understanding of NEC and JCT contracts.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Ability to build relationships with clients, subcontractors and stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, numerical and reporting capabilities.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

Quantity Surveyor

Location: Essex / M11 Corridor (1 Position) & Western Corridor (1 Position)

About the Role

Our client is seeking two experienced Quantity Surveyors to join a well-established and growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor. These positions will be responsible for overseeing projects across either the Essex and M11 Corridor region or the Western Corridor, providing commercial support from project inception through to final account settlement.

This is an excellent opportunity for commercially astute Quantity Surveyors with a strong background in civil engineering, infrastructure, and groundworks projects who are looking to join a forward-thinking business offering a flexible hybrid working arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing the commercial aspects of multiple civil engineering and groundworks projects.
• Preparation, submission, and negotiation of interim valuations and final accounts.
• Monitoring project costs and ensuring budgets are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
• Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
• Measuring works and preparing accurate cost forecasts.
• Procurement and management of subcontractor packages.
• Reviewing subcontractor applications, variations, and final accounts.
• Producing monthly cost value reconciliation reports.
• Managing change control processes and contractual notifications.
• Liaising closely with operational teams, project managers, site teams, clients, and subcontractors.
• Supporting successful project delivery while maximising commercial performance and profitability.
• Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the civil engineering, infrastructure, or groundworks sectors.
• Strong understanding of NEC and JCT forms of contract.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Ability to build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, numerical, and reporting capabilities.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Degree qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline is desirable.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record within civil engineering and groundworks environments and be comfortable managing projects from pre-construction through to completion. You will be commercially focused, highly organised, and capable of operating autonomously whilst maintaining strong relationships across all levels of a project team.

Package

Salary: £70,000 - £100,000 per annum, dependent upon experience.

Working Pattern:

Hybrid / Remote working with site and office visits as required.
