Job summary

Fawkes & Reece are recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to join a civil engineering contractor on a project in Babraham, Cambridge. You will manage project costs, prepare BOQs, and drive cost planning and reporting to keep projects within budget.

The role requires strong commercial acumen, excellent negotiation and communication skills, and the ability to work independently within a wider project team. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity on site in Cambridge.

Qualifications

• Previous Quantity Surveyor experience in civil engineering, groundworks or infrastructure.
• Strong cost control and commercial management knowledge.
• Experience preparing BOQs and cost reports.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

Quantity Surveyor - Civil Engineering

Fawkes & Reece are currently recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join an established civil engineering contractor based on a project in Babraham, Cambridge.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the commercial and financial management of civil engineering projects, working closely with the operational team to ensure costs are effectively controlled and projects are delivered within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage project costs from initial estimates through to final accounts

• Prepare and manage Bills of Quantities (BOQs)

• Cost planning, forecasting and reporting

• Monitor project expenditure and identify commercial risks

• Manage valuations, variations and subcontractor accounts

• Work closely with project and site teams to ensure commercial targets are achieved

• Produce accurate cost reports and commercial updates

• Assist with procurement and subcontractor negotiations

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, groundworks or infrastructure

• Strong knowledge of cost control, cost planning and commercial management

• Experience preparing BOQs and cost reports

• Strong numerical and analytical skills

• Excellent communication and negotiation skills

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a wider project team

• Relevant Quantity Surveying or Construction Management qualification preferred

• RICS membership would be advantageous but is not essential
