Job summary

Tech Connect Group is seeking a hands-on Quality Manager for a specialist vehicle conversion manufacturer at the Pontypool site. You will own product quality, lead a small team, and have authority to stop release if standards aren’t met, coordinating with production, NPI and R&D.

You will bring a strong quality engineering background with leadership experience, knowledge of ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP and FMEA, and exposure to Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on quality engineering background with leadership experience.
• Solid knowledge of ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP and FMEA.
• Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing exposure.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and understand manufacturing processes.
• Full clean UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a small quality team including a Quality Engineer, technicians and inspectors.
• Hands-on role - you'll be leading the team but also doing QE work yourself.
• Own non-conformance and root cause processes, driving permanent corrective actions.
• Authority to stop release of finished product if standards aren't met.
• Work closely with production, NPI and R&D to ensure quality is built in before handover to manufacturing.
• Liaise with counterpart at the group's second site on a fortnightly basis, with occasional travel.
• Report into the Senior Quality Manager overseeing quality across both sites.
• Manage quality KPIs including scrap, rework and out-of-sequence product.
• Lead quality audits, FMEA, PPAP and control plan management.
• Support new product introduction and pre-production trials, including work on premium OEM prototype programmes.

The opportunity:

Our client, a specialist vehicle conversion manufacturer, is looking for a hands-on Quality Manager to take ownership of product quality at their Pontypool site. This is an urgent requirement.

The Role:

• Lead and manage a small quality team including a Quality Engineer, technicians and inspectors
• Hands-on role - you'll be leading the team but also doing QE work yourself

What They're Looking For:

• Strong hands-on Quality Engineering background, ideally with some team leadership, OR an established Quality Manager
• Solid knowledge of ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP and FMEA
• Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing experience
• Comfortable reading engineering drawings and understanding manufacturing processes
• Strong root cause and problem-solving skills (8D, 5W2H, PDCA)
• Automotive or vehicle manufacturing background preferred
• Full clean UK driving licence
• Able to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
