Quality Management Lead - EDF | Sizewell C Programme Support

Location: Remote with regular travel to SZC (Suffolk), HPC (Somerset) and London

Role Purpose

As a Quality Management Lead, you will ensure that SZC's quality requirements are fully implemented across the entire project life cycle - covering design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, shipping, construction, commissioning and contract close-out.

Working within the Project Delivery Organisation (PDO) Quality Team and embedded within a Programme, you will act as the supply chain's primary point of contact for all quality-related matters. You will perform the role of 'Intelligent Customer', ensuring contractors meet all quality assurance and quality control obligations, drawing on lessons learned from Hinkley Point C.

Key Responsibilities
  • Quality Leadership & Oversight
  • Review, accept and monitor Contractor Quality Assurance Plans.
  • Produce and implement Project Quality Control Plans for allocated contracts.
  • Ensure effective deployment of SZC's core quality arrangements, including GQAS, LTQR requirements, Quality Release Certification and ITP specifications.
  • Lead LTQR reviews and support the progressive handover of records.
  • Inspection, Surveillance & Supplier Performance
  • Oversee supplier Inspection & Test Plans, witness points and hold points.
  • Coordinate manufacturing and construction surveillance activities, ensuring a risk-based approach.
  • Conduct supplier audits and support contracted inspection entities.
  • Carry out targeted surveillance of documentation and conduct joint inspections as required.
  • Support the management of non-conformances, corrective actions and close-out.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build strong working relationships with internal project teams, designers, supply chain, inspectors and subcontractors.
  • Support the Quality Delivery Manager in ensuring the Programme meets IMS and project-specific quality requirements.
  • Provide expert guidance and challenge to ensure Right-First-Time delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of quality procedures, specifications and continuous improvement activities.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong background in project delivery with a major focus on quality management, ideally within the nuclear sector or other safety-critical industries.
  • Sound understanding of QA/QC across engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 19443, IAEA GSR-2 and associated standards.
  • Experience working with large multi-contract supply chains.
  • Skilled in data analysis, reporting and supplier audit performance.
  • Confident communicator, able to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Proactive, flexible and able to work independently.
  • Fluent in English.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of nuclear new build or licensed site conditions.
  • French language ability.
  • Understanding of pressure and nuclear codes, welding, NDT/NDE.
  • Experience working with regulators (e.g., ONR).
  • Improvement methodology knowledge (e.g., Lean Six Sigma).
Qualifications
Essential
  • HNC/HND or degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Proven leadership experience within QA/QC in a nuclear or safety-critical environment.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting supplier audits and working across multicultural teams.
Desirable
  • IRCA-certified auditor status.
  • Membership or working towards membership of the Chartered Quality Institute.
  • Commercial exposure and supplier-management experience
