Job summary

Sony Interactive Entertainment is hiring a Software Quality Engineer in Test to join the Quality Engineering team in the UK. You will design and implement tests, build internal tooling, and contribute to testing frameworks to ensure the PlayStation toolchain delivers reliable software quality.

You’ll collaborate with development teams across test, build, and diagnostics, using Python scripts and CI/CD pipelines to accelerate feedback loops.

Qualifications

• A BSc in a relevant technical or scientific field such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating appropriate technical skills.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, with the ability to design, implement, debug, and maintain code used for testing, tooling, automation, or infrastructure.
• Understanding of software testing techniques gained through coursework, projects, internships, or professional experience.
• Interest in Quality Engineering, including testing, automation, tooling, and diagnostics to improve software quality.
• Ability to write and maintain unit and system tests for software applications, with experience in testing frameworks a plus for senior candidates.
• Proficiency in scripting languages, such as Python, to automate test cases and workflows.
• Ability to build practical tools or automation from small scripts to internal tooling.
• Analytical approach to problem-solving and strong pattern recognition.
• Strong communication skills to convey technical information clearly.
• Collaborative mindset to work across teams and reporting lines.
• Learning mindset with enthusiasm for developing skills and quality engineering judgement.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with development teams to design and implement tests, tooling, and test systems for new ToolChain features.
• Develop internal tools to improve test execution, diagnostics, reporting, and workflow efficiency.
• Contribute to testing tools and frameworks to validate the ToolChain and surface quality risks.
• Maintain and improve test jobs on the Jenkins CI system for reliable feedback.
• Write Python-based automation and scripts to support testing, analysis, and diagnostics.
• Analyze automated test results to identify failures and improvement opportunities.
• Investigate issues across test, build, tooling, and execution environments to isolate causes.
• Support improvements to testability and diagnostics for faster issue resolution.
• Participate in code and documentation reviews to improve test coverage and quality.
• Learn and apply Quality Engineering practices including risk-based thinking and automation design.
