Job summary

FirstGroup plc in Huddersfield is seeking a NVQ/SVQ Level 3 qualified PSV/HGV Technician to join the busy First Bus Huddersfield Depot. You will diagnose faults, carry out mechanical repairs, service vehicles and respond to on-road breakdowns.

The role offers an hourly rate of £20 with a minimum 37.5 hours per week, 4 days in 7 including one weekend in three, and time-and-a-half for overtime. A valid UK driving licence and a passion for mechanics are essential.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience working on HGV or PSV.
• Valid UK driving licence.
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and perform mechanical repairs on PSV/HGV.
• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries.
• Road test vehicles and ensure documentation meets regulations and health and safety standards.
• Replace parts as needed.

PSV/HGV Technician

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Technician to join the busy team at our First Bus Huddersfield Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details:

• £20.00 per hour
• Minimum 37.5 hours per week
• £ 39,000 per annum
• 4 days over 7 (including 1 weekend in 3)
• Rotation of early and late shifts: 5:30am-15:30pm early and 13:00pm-23:00pm late
• Overtime rate paid at time and a half

In this hands‑on role, you’ll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You’ll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on-road breakdowns and recoveries. You’ll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
