Job summary

First Bus Huddersfield Depot is seeking an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 qualified PSV/HGV Technician. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, and conduct servicing to keep fleets safe and reliable.

Applicants should have PSV/HGV experience, a valid UK driving licence, and a strong eye for detail. The role offers a 4‑day week with weekend rotation and overtime at time and a half.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience working on HGV or PSV vehicles.
• Valid UK driving licence is essential.
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs on PSV/HGV vehicles.
• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries when required.
• Road test vehicles and ensure documentation complies with regulations and health & safety standards.

PSV/HGV Technician

Old Fieldhouse Lane, Huddersfield, HD2 1AG

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Technician to join the busy team at our First Bus Huddersfield Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details:

• £20.00 per hour
• Minimum 37.5 hours per week
• £ 39,000 per annum
• 4 days over 7 (including 1 weekend in 3)
• Rotation of early and late shifts: 5:30am-15:30pm early and 13:00pm-23:00pm late
• Overtime rate paid at time and a half

In this hands‑on role, you'll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You'll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries. You'll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We're Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
