Job summary

FirstGroup plc, a leading UK transport provider, is seeking an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Technician to join the busy First Bus Halifax Depot at Elmwood Garage. PSV or HGV mechanical experience is welcome, and ex-forces engineers with an engineering apprenticeship are encouraged to apply.

In this hands‑on role you’ll diagnose faults, perform repairs, service vehicles, and carry out inspections.

Qualifications

• NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience on PSV or HGV is desirable.
• Valid UK driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs.
• Perform scheduled servicing and inspections.
• Replace parts as needed and conduct preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries and road test vehicles.
• Ensure documentation complies with regulations and health & safety standards.

Position: PSV/HGV Technician

Location: Elmwood Garage, Shaw Hill, Halifax, HX12RF

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Technician to join the busy team at our First Bus HalifaxDepot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details

• £20.00 per hour
• Minimum 37.5 hours per week
• Approx. £39,000per annum
• Monday-Friday
• Rotation of early and late shifts
• Overtime rate paid at time & a half

In this hands‑on role, you'll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You'll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries. You'll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We're Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
