Job summary

First Bus Ipswich Depot is seeking a skilled PSV/HGV Mechanic. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, conduct servicing, and respond to breakdowns to keep our fleet safe and reliable.

The role features 39 hours per week with a 7-day shift rotation and a competitive hourly rate, including a weekend premium. A Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance is required, along with a valid UK driving licence and a passion for mechanics.

• Experience working on HGV or PSV vehicles.
• UK driving licence required.
• Strong attention to detail and passion for mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs on PSV/HGV vehicles.
• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries.
• Road test vehicles and complete documentation per regulations and safety standards.

Position: PSV/HGV Mechanic

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus Ipswich Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

• £21.12 per hour
• Weekend premium rate of £22.19 per hour
• Minimum 39 hours per week
• Approx. £42,831 per annum
• 5 days over 7
• Rotation of early and late shifts: 07:00-15:00 one week then 12:00-20:00 the next week

In this hands-on role, you'll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You'll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on-road breakdowns and recoveries. You'll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We're Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
