Job summary

First Bus is seeking a PSV/HGV Mechanic at the Lowestoft Depot. The ideal candidate will hold an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in vehicle maintenance and have PSV or HGV experience.

A valid UK licence and a keen eye for detail are essential. The role offers a competitive hourly rate (£21.55 base, £22.19 with weekend premium), a 39-hour week, and a £2,000 joining bonus, with 5 days over 7 including weekend shifts and rotation of early/late shifts.

Qualifications

• Must hold NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds equivalent) in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience working on HGV or PSV is preferred.
• Valid UK driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and perform mechanical repairs to keep vehicles safe and reliable.
• Carry out scheduled servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries as needed; road test vehicles when required.

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus Lowestoft Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex‑Forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details

• £21.55 per hour
• Weekend premium rate of £22.19 per hour
• Minimum 39 hours per week
• Approx. £43,703 per annum
• 5 days over 7 (including weekends)
• Rotation of early and late shifts

In this hands-on role, you’ll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You’ll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries. You’ll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
