Job description

Transforming Private Markets with Data

At Specter, we're on a mission to bring transparency and efficiency to private markets. We believe that better data leads to better investment decisions, and we're building the tools that make this possible.

We started with a bold vision: to create the ultimate data platform for private markets. While traditional information sources often provide outdated or incomplete data, our platform delivers real-time insights that help investors identify opportunities and make informed decisions.

Our dedication to understanding the nuances of private markets has attracted over 300 leading VC and PE firms who rely on Specter daily. We've grown as a self-funded, profitable startup by focusing on what matters most - delivering exceptional value to our customers.

Customer Success at Specter

As a data platform company, we only succeed when our customers can quickly learn, adopt, and get value from our product. We spend significant time building an intuitive platform, but we know there's no replacement for getting help from a real-life expert when you're learning a complex product.

Our Product Specialists are the first helpful and friendly face that our customers meet. They work directly with investors and operators, helping them set up and get maximum value from our platform. As experts in Specter, they are our most critical touchpoint in making customers successful with our product.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Work directly with Specter's customers via calls, email, and chat to ensure their success with our platform
  • Serve as a critical bridge between our product and our customers
  • Guide users on best practices, integrations, and advanced functionality
  • Design and develop resources to support customer onboarding at scale (e.g., user guides, documentation, onboarding emails)
  • Identify accounts where there is opportunity to expand Specter's impact, and collaborate with the sales team to nurture that growth
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to address and resolve customer product issues
  • Gather client feedback and insights to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Specter product
  • Debug technical integration issues while also brainstorming strategic solutions with customers

You will join a small but mighty team of data platform experts that guide customers through every step of their journey with Specter. We straddle the divide between technical and non-technical teams, and are as comfortable working with engineers as we are with investors and analysts.

We are endlessly curious and perpetual question askers. We're intent on understanding the ins and outs of our customer's businesses, the needs of their teams, and how our platform can deliver maximum value to them.

We are also teachers and two-way conduits of information between Specter's product team and our customers. We write, speak, and present about our product, how it works, and what our customers achieve with it. We also share stories and feedback with our product and engineering colleagues to help them understand our customers' needs.

We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have:

  • Direct customer-facing experience deploying, selling, or managing complex products or services
  • Experience solving business problems with technology
  • Comfort with technical concepts like APIs, data integrations, and basic programming principles
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
  • A natural curiosity and desire to understand how things work

What Are We Looking For

  • Ideally 1-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role, but not a prerequisite
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and master new technologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Alignment with our values: No Fluff, Speed, Frugality, and Responsibility

This is not a Good Fit IF

  • You prefer highly structured environments with predictable workflows
  • You're uncomfortable with the ambiguity and rapid changes of a startup
  • You want to focus solely on either technical or non-technical aspects of customer success
  • You have very strict work-life boundaries (while we respect personal time, startup life sometimes requires flexibility)

Why This Role Matters

At Specter, we're rebuilding the data infrastructure for Private Markets. If we succeed, our platform will become integral to the entire tech ecosystem. Your role in ensuring customer success is directly tied to this mission. You'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our company's trajectory during a critical growth phase.

How to Apply

If you're excited about transforming private markets with data and want to join our mission, please submit your application to careers@tryspecter.com with your resume and a brief note explaining why you're interested in Specter and this role specifically.

We value your time and aim to make our hiring process efficient and transparent. Typically, candidates can expect to hear from us within one week of application.
