DATS Recruitment is seeking a Senior Chemical Process Engineer to join a Manchester-based pharmaceutical project on a 6‑month contract with potential extension. Hybrid work: 3 days in the office, 2 from home.

Candidate must have API manufacturing experience and be eligible to work in the UK; BPSS security clearance may be required. Roles include FEED and detailed design for a new facility focusing on API manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience delivering process design in the pharmaceutical sector.

• Participate in design reviews and constructability assessments.

Job description

We are seeking a Senior Chemical Process Engineer to join our client based in Manchester working on a 6 month contract basis with the possibility for further extension. This is to work on the detailed design of a new pharmaceutical facility in the life sciences sector.

The full job description covers all associated skills, previous experience, and any qualifications that applicants are expected to have.

This will be a hybrid working role, based in the office 3 days per week (strictly – no room for negotiation) and 2 days from home. This is also an inside IR35 role so candidates will not be able to use a Limited Company. Umbrella or our agency PAYE will be possible and we believe a gross umbrella figure around £50–£65 p/h will be available – based on level of experience and suitability. Candidates will require existing eligibility to work in the UK as no sponsorship is available and they must be able to obtain basic (BPSS) level security clearance. They must possess prior experience working on API manufacturing facilities and pharmaceutical process plants, and have experience supporting FEED and detailed design projects. Technologies include synthesis and purification. The role will also involve the design of ancillary systems to support the facility. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: P&ID development, utility sizing, and safety design, including relief systems and vent systems.

We are looking for experienced Chemical Process Engineers to support a major Life Sciences project based in our Manchester office.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the detailed design of a new pharmaceutical facility focused on API manufacturing, working as part of a multi-disciplinary project team on behalf of our client.

You will be involved in process design activities across synthesis, purification and supporting ancillary systems, with responsibilities that may include P&ID development, utility sizing, and safety design such as relief and vent systems. The role will suit engineers with experience in API manufacturing facilities, pharmaceutical process plants, and FEED or detailed design projects.

We are open to considering candidates at Engineer, Senior Engineer or Principal Engineer level, provided you have the relevant sector and project experience.

This is an inside IR35 contract opportunity for an initial 6-month period, with the possibility of extension, and will require attendance at our Manchester office 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and/or support specific process engineering activities during detailed design phases.
• Deliver process engineering work packages in line with project schedules and budget requirements.
• Produce and review process engineering deliverables including:
  • Basis of Design documentation
  • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Process schedules
  • Process equipment specifications and datasheets
  • Utility demand schedules
  • Process calculations and design reports
• Support process safety activities including:
  • HAZOP studies
  • Design safety reviews
  • Risk assessments and action close-out
• Develop technical specifications for process equipment and packages.
