Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is seeking an Instructor to supervise prisoners in non-specialist workshops. The role involves training, safety management, and maintaining records in a structured environment within a prison setting.

It is a non-operational post with advisory and supervisory responsibilities, offering hybrid working arrangements where business needs allow, in the UK. Training and administrative duties are included to ensure compliance with security and high standards of service.

Qualifications

• Supervise prisoners in non-specialist workshops with safety in mind
• Experience with health and safety protocols in workshop environments
• Knowledge of COSHH and safe use of tools and machinery

Responsibilities

• Participate in the selection process of prisoners for the workshop.
• Induct prisoners to the workshop/area of work and train them in health and safety, COSHH, machinery and tools usage.
• Provide support for prisoners, tailor learning needs, set work schedules and manage targets.
• Supervise and manage prisoners with safety and discipline, including searches when required.
• Contribute to risk and safety assessments for workshop materials and activities.
• Maintain prisoner training records and update documentation.
• Log attendance and approve hours worked and wages.
• Attend relevant meetings and provide administrative support.
